What Is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils from aromatic plants and trees, to help restore and promote health of body and mind. The principle ways of using essential oils in Aromatherapy are:
  • On the skin, via aromatherapy massage, diluted in carrier oil.
  • Inhalations.
  • Compresses.
  • Aromatic baths.

Aromatherapy massage is probably the most commonly used form of application of essential oils, as it is most effective in assisting the passage of essential oils into the body. Massage is also a well regarded treatment in itself it has the ability to relax muscles, assist the circulation of blood and enhance lymphatic drainage.
Massage also encourages deeper sleep and deep breathing; it can aid digestion, help alleviate headaches and assist in the reduction of high blood pressure. On a psychological level, massage can trigger the release of brain chemicals such as encephalin and endorphin, which are mood altering and have the ability to engender a sense of well being and also reduce pain. In short, it helps soothe the mind.

When massage combined with the healing properties of essential oils, the results are magnified.
Physiologically, aromatherapy massage can reduce stress and its symptoms, relieve pain and increase energy levels, while additionally improving the condition of the skin. Psychologically, it can restore balance to the mind and assist in the release of emotions.

Aromatherapy is a fast growing, safe and natural complementary therapy with increasing recognition from orthodox health care for its therapeutic potential.

Each essential oil has its distinguishing properties and it is the expertise of the Aromatherapist to mix a blend of oils to meet the individual needs of the client. In professional practice of aromatherapy, the essential oils can be applied in a variety of ways. Through massage, ointments, oils, lotions, baths and inhalations. These are again dependent on the needs of the individual.

  • Who Can Benefit From Aromatherapy?

As Aromatherapy treats the whole person, not just the symptoms of disease, professional aromatherapy is a safe and appropriate complementary therapy for all and can benefit everyone whether health is good, or needs improvements. It is not a replacement for orthodox health care, but as a support for the healing process.

Please note that it is with regret that due to the personal nature of the treatment, I am unable to offer treatments to male clients except under special circumstances.

What Happens When I Have A Treatment?

On your first visit there is a full confidential consultation. This enables me to find out about your medical history, medication that may be being taken, medical conditions, general health, diet and nutrition, lifestyle, etc. It is important that the consultation is detailed so I, as the Aromatherapist is happy that the client is able to have aromatherapy and information given in the consultation also enables the choice of essential oils and method of treatment to be ascertained.
This consultation also enables the client to discuss any issues or have any questions answered to complete satisfaction. Only when both client and Aromatherapist are happy with having and providing treatment, will a treatment take place.

There are many treatment options within Aromatherapy, as I work on a home treatment basis I use a portable massage chair, for clients to be treated on, which I can situate in a downstairs room of your house. This enables me to massage, head, neck and shoulders and back and lower back. These are also the most common areas that require treating and also by far the most popular.
The chair in very comfortable, easy to sit on and won’t put any pressure on the front of your body.
