Maternity Reflexology #01

Maternity Reflexology for Pregnancy and Beyond!

I have experience in working with mums-to-be during various stages of pregnancy through to labour. Reflexology is fast becoming recommended as a safe treatment, which benefits mum and baby alike and is safe to have after 13 weeks of pregnancy. Please talk to your midwife and discuss reflexology prior to having a consultation and treatment. It is essential to have the midwife's consent before treating.

As I am a member of the Association of Reflexologists (AOR), I work with pregnant clients within their guidelines and as well as my reflexology training, I have furthered my learning in this area and attended a Maternity Reflexology course.

How can Reflexology help?

If you and baby are both well, reflexology is often used to ease ‘common ailments of pregnancy’ back-ache, heartburn, swelling in hands/feet etc. It is also relaxing and calming for both mum and baby, and therefore can be a beneficial treatment throughout pregnancy. It can assist and support the body in maintaining its natural balance. Most of all, its enjoyable!

Maternity Reflexology #03It is usual to have the consultation, where a medical history and notes on lifestyle are taken, and also information on you and your baby’s health throughout the pregnancy. Then any questions and information about reflexology can be discussed and if both the client and I are happy to proceed, then the first treatment is done. It is then a good idea to have a follow-up treatment the next week. It is then really dependent on how the client is responding to the treatment and how advanced the pregnancy is, and the reason for the reflexology treatment which determines the schedule for further reflexology sessions. There is no set rule, as everyone is different!

Maternity Reflexology #04I bring my portable Reflexology chair, which I can situate in a downstairs room of your house. In the later stages of pregnancy is however more comfortable to be seated on your sofa or easy chair. I only need access to your feet therefore shoes and socks need only be removed.

If you are considering having reflexology treatments, please get the permission of your midwife before starting treatments.

How Much Will a Reflexology Treatment Cost Me?

Treatment one consists of consultation and treatment, and lasts an hour and a half and costs £25.00.

Any treatment after that lasts an hour and costs £20.00.
